Arroyo sharp, Tribe bats dull. Cincinnati Reds 3, Cleveland Indians 1

Indians @ Reds Recap Friday May 22, 2009

It looks like Grady read my preview earlier today as he hit a blast to right field in his first at-bat tonight. It’s hard to not type lead off the game. It’s like those first couple documents or checks you have to date on January 1st every new year. Here are some things that caught my “I” today:

-It looks like even fans in Cincinnati either stayed home or went somewhere to watch the Cavs game tonight.

-Anthony Reyes is turning into the pitching version of Rick Ankiel in the first inning.

-Three batters into the bottom of the first and Rick Manning is irritated, as am I. What time is the Cavs game?

-There are Indians fans out there who are still bitter about the Brandon Phillips trade hoping he hit’s a grand slam right now. Actual result: Phillips hits a sacrifice fly to left, 1-0 Reds. Phillips RBI count for the series stands at 1.

-Jensen Lewis is warming up in the bullpen. That would be like Chris Dudley being brought in to shoot Shaq’s free throws.

-Luckily for the Indians and Reyes, the Reds lineup is full of pus, and they were only able to muster one run after having the bases loaded with no outs.

-Arroyo’s pitches had good movement on them in the second, we’ll see if that continues.

-Ben Francisco’s leadoff double goes for naught as Anthony Reyes bunts down the first base line, allowing Adam Rosales to throw Francisco out at third. Asdrubal Cabrera then hit into a double play to end the inning.

-Victor Martinez is having to make more saves than Marc-Andre Fleury.

-Somewhere Al Pawlowski thought Shin-Soo Choo’s warning track shot to center was outta here! Just kidding Al, I actually thought you didn’t do too bad in the games you called, but you weren’t exactly filling in for Vin Scully either, kidding again.

-What does it say for the current state of major league power hitters when Brandon Phillips and Shin-Soo Choo are your cleanup hitters for the night?

-Reyes only goes three innings, it will be interesting if he makes another start, but the question is, who would take his place in the rotation? Huff is already up, has the Columbus Shuffle (see Jeremy Sowers) been danced enough? Maybe Chuck Lofgren? Why the hell not? Edit: The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported that Reyes left the game with a sore elbow.

-Geez, a scoreless inning for Jensen Lewis in the 4th. It‘s gotta be a full moon tonight. At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if the Magic win again tonight.

-Switching gears a bit, Mo Williams just threw the ball at Dwight Howard, it was clocked faster than Bronson Arroyo’s fastball. Yes, I have to go back and forth a bit, I didn’t much the other night and the Cavs lost.

-The mighty Johnny Gomes and Adam Rosales lead the charge for Cincinnati in the 8th as the Reds go ahead 2-1. If I didn’t throw the Reds part in there, you could have mistaken this as a headline from a AAA game.

-Expect a sellout for the Are you in the Tribe apron giveaway night : (.

-Well, I thought the Sizemore home run was going to be the beginning of the offensive onslaught, not the sole run for the night. At least DeRosa didn't complete help make my preview an utter and complete failure by going 1 for 3 tonight.

-Final score: Reds 3, Indians 1. The quest for the first three game winning streak of 2009 continues.

-The good news, I can now watch the end of the Cavs game, and they are up 55-44 as I type this.
