Cliff Lee not shy to show why he won the Cy. Indians 10, Twins 1.

Cleveland Indians at Minnesota Twins, Wednesday June 3, 2009

Clifton Phifer Lee vs. Anthony Ray Swarzak

The Indians record is turning into one those days when you wake up and know what day it is but not what numeric day of the month it is. Sometimes it just doesn’t matter, kinda like the Indians record, their twenty-something and thirty-something, going on sixty-something and ninety-something. Since the NBA Finals doesn’t start tomorrow, I figured why not endure some self inflicted punishment by watching the Indians and Twins play in my least favorite Major League stadium.

Only a true fan could watch this game. The Indians have as many players on the DL as it would take to field a lineup: nine. The Tribe is fastly turning into the Columbus Clippers north. You can argue that Cliff Lee is the game’s best 2-6 pitcher, and that his record could be flipped flopped. It will be interesting how much longer he can keep quiet if he continues to not get run support. But now it is fair to ask where would said support come from at this point? This season that started off as a nightmare has now turned into a recurring one. But in my dreams Pronk still remains, his bat is strong and Grady has range. In my dreams there’s 90 wins and Wedge is not retained:

Well here’s hoping this lineup of gauze and Ace bandages can muster more than three runs and get a rare divisional victory, hell who am I kidding, a rare win, period. Sorry, I guess my mood is reflecting today’s NE Ohio weather. Let’s hope I can make note of some positives from this game, other than the obvious one, that being I can take a break from the Indians tomorrow night (Insert:

Here are some things that caught my script “I” during the game, today, or as I was writing. These things can be good or bad or whatever I want them to be:

-Josh Hamilton has been placed on the DL again. I’m beginning to wonder if last year was a one hit wonder. I know he’s got the talent to not be, but will it be the only season he plays a hundred games?

-No Matt Underwood tonight and I don’t have a clue who this other guy is, but it will still be better than Steve Phillips paired with __________ from ESPN.

-This is just like watching the Pirates anymore, it’s like you go into the game hoping the Indians will win instead of expecting them to.

-Wow, just read the Pirates traded Nate McLouth to the Braves for prospects: pitcher
Charlie Morton(notes), outfielder Gorkys Hernandez, and pitcher Jeff Locke.

-I guess something happened to Matt Underwood’s mom, so I hope everything ends up being ok, thoughts go out to Matt and his family.

-I’m still in shock over this McLouth trade, they were painting this guy as the franchise, put him in all their marketing and advertising campaigns and he’s gone by the beginning of June? Now wonder the Pirates are a joke of an organization. I don’t care if Neal Huntington is there or not, they are a joke and an embarassment to their fans and Major League Baseball, suck it Pirates!

-Wow, the Tribe scores five in the third off of four singles and a three run blast by Johnny Peralta. Mark DeRosa makes it six consective hits after two outs in the inning. It’s looking like a night of great support for Cliff. I love when my previews flow so smoothly with the actual game results : ( wop wop wop wahhhhhhh.

-Curtis Granderson breaks up Josh Beckett’s no-hit bid in the bottom of the 7th in Detroit. Beckett is one of those guys a lot of people don’t like, but I would take him on my team in a heartbeat. He’s kind of like Kobe Bryant, not very likeable, but a cold-blooded killer when the pressure is on.

-It’s only been one game with Francisco leading off, but you can argue since he and Asdrubal Cabrera took over, they have vastly outperformed Grady Sizemore in that spot.

-All six Indians runs so far have been scored with two outs as Jamey Carroll singled in Ben Francisco who doubled in the top of the 4th.

-This should be more than enough support for Cliff Lee…if Wedge lets him finish the game!

-Jason Kubel is the left handed hitting fire-hydrant to Kelly Shoppach’s right, but Kubel can actually hit.

-Indians tack on two more runs in the 8th and 9th , and now lead 10-1. Every Indian in the lineup has gotten a hit, last to do so, my personal whipping boy, Kelly Shoppach. I need to think of a new word to replace whipping boy, I really don’t like it.

-Ben Francisco is now hitting .271 after two hits tonight, I really like how he’s been playing lately. What do message board posters know anyway? Besides me of course, haha.

-Cliff Lee’s pitch count stands at 106 right now, so I don’t see him coming out in the 9th, with a nine run lead.

-Rafael Perez has come in to pitch the 9th, nine runs might just be enough for him to work with but we’ll see.

-15 > 14.66...Tribe hits tonight vs. Rafael Perez’s ERA. Finally something greater than it.

Final score, Indians 10, Twins 1. Kind of a weird game, no Matt Underwood, a lot of offense, good pitching, and a win. Usually at least two of these things are missing from Cleveland games. Needless to say I’m looking forward to the NBA Finals tomorrow night from the land of Fletch.
